I’m sure we’ve all said that once or twice when we were a little whipper snappper. Most of the time it was just out of frustration from being disciplined or told that we can’t do something. “I can’t wait till I get older so I can ___________ (fill in the blank). At the time it was being said yea we meant it but after a couple minutes things would simmer down and we would go back to doing what kids do.

I’m sure we all also got that talk from our parents about what growing up is really about, responsibility. Told that we shouldn’t rush to grow up so fast and enjoy being a kid while we can. Told that we are living the good life. Well we all went through the growing pains and have come to see that our parents/elders were not lying at all, lol. Life is filled with responsibility and can sometimes be very harsh.

Now this leads me to the children of this generation. Each and every one so determined to grow up before their time. Trying so hard to be more than what they are, a child. Don’t get me wrong there are some exceptions where a child may have to do some growing up quick and take on extra responsibilities to help out. But that’s not what I am talking about. I’m speaking on the children who feel as if they are grown already and try to act as such. From the way they act and dress all the way to the lack of respect for elders (because they feel they are on the same level)

What happened to kids being kids? When I was younger I had a short list of things to worry about and I really wasn’t trying to add anything else to it. My mind was always on chillin’ outside with my friends, toys, games and allowance. Now a lot of kids seem to have their minds pre-occupied with everything else. Things they shouldn’t be worried about for a good long time. Maybe its the way our society seems to be so accepting of this now. Hey they must be right? You rarely hear or see anyone putting things into perspective for these kids, or keeping them in check, right?

I guess the point I’m trying to ultimately make is that this generation of kids really needs to slow down. They all want to be adults but don’t realize that you can’t just skip steps. There are things you must learn and understand, things you can’t learn in school. Things you will only learn with time. And also I feel as if many kids are missing out and cheating themselves by “forcing” themselves to grow up so quick.

To this day I sometime wish I could go back to those days when things were much simpler. No rent, no bills, no real responsibility. Just stay out of trouble, do what you’re supposed to in school, listen to your parents and do your chores. All the other stuff was taken care of already by your parents. A roof over your head, clothes and hot meals. It doesn’t get any simpler than that.

Often times there comes a point in a persons life where a decision must be made, whether it be good or bad. It must be made. These decisions are sometimes easy to make but usually not so much. I personally don’t buy into the whole “well this is the life I was given” BS. Everything that may come and/or go or change in your life I feel is a direct result of the choices you make. Yes you might have been “dealt a certain hand” in this so-called Poker game called life, but that’s not the end its only the beginning. How you decide to play these cards you are “dealt” is what will ultimately decide what happens next for you.

Many times you may see a person who (in this same type of situation i’m speaking of) may feel down and out and upset with the way things are going. At this time many problems may also be building up for them but the biggest of these problems is that they fail to see and realize that things are the way they are because of actions taken or not taken in the past. Instead they may sulk, cry, stay away from everyone, lash out or even blame someone else for their troubles. It’s this lack of realization that might ultimately prevent them from getting things right and being able to move on to whatever may be next in life.

Fact of the matter is that making difficult decisions is a huge part of life, DEAL WITH IT. Some may not like it but it must be done. Also realizing that the decisions you make will affect how things may play out in your life is a part of life, deal with that also. No one is dealt a complete sh*t hand, it’s just that some people don’t see how to take what they have and use it to their advantage. So if you’re not taking advantage of your “cards” and life isn’t so good for you don’t be mad at the world. Do some self reflecting, its only the life you chose.

“Thats pretty much all I have to say about that” – F. Gump

Disclaimer: NO I’m not speaking about anyone specifically. This was just on my mind, I was thinking in the past.

There are currently less than two weeks left until that day that most females and some males wait for. The holiday for the hopeless romantics, Valentine’s Day. Me personally I call it penetration day because well that pretty much all I care about on that day. Everything else I can care less about.

The whole point of the day for guys is pretty much spend money, get your girl a gift to avoid any confrontation with the misses then get reciprocated in some sort of way. For females however the whole day turns into one of two things

-Get upset at the world and be bitter because you are alone day.

-Valentines contest day. Which consist of females showing off to each other the gifts they’ve received and bragging about how much more their man loves them than the next woman. Ugh

Every single year its the same thing I see at the office. The week preceding V-day all of the single bitter folks will make it their point to testify about how much they don’t like the day and how it is a waste. Mind you these same people used to sing a different tune when they were in happy relationships. Now the day of is a whole different type of bafoonery in itself. No one ever wants to answer the phones. All of a sudden on this day people are jumping to the phones hoping that the next call will be for them to walk down to the reception desk to pick up a delivery. Most of the day is spent in anticipation.

All day people go back and forth showing off the flowers, gifts and chocolates that they received from their SO. The same person who last week was being called all sorts of ungodly things IF they even thought about not getting any type of gift for their SO, LOL. Its really all funny to me.

All the while there are the sideline haters sitting at their desk talking under their breathe each time a new valentines day gift or bouquet of flowers is delivered. They are the funniest to watch. Its amazing how this day affects people. I think it brings out the worst in people honestly.

Everyone focuses on this one day to show the person they care about just how much they love them. But isn’t that what they should be doing everyday? I always ask my girl this. “If I treat and spoil and pamper you this one day out the year, will it make up for all the other dumb stuff I’ve done throughout the year?” And her repsponse is always “Nope! But it will get you some.” So at that point I say well in that case my only goal for the day like many other days is “penetration”. There’s no need for me to go out my way to do some unbelievable stuff just so you can show off too your friends. And amazingly she agrees.

My lady has told me plenty of times that she would rather be with a person that will do right by her the other 364 days of the year, than to be with a person who cuts up all year then shows out on that one day. Maybe I just got lucky with mine, LOL.

So these next couple of days before the “Big Day” watch and see the madness that goes on around you. Especially the commercials that always suggest spend money to make her happy, LOL. Those are my favorite! If it isn’t a diamond don’t come with it. Remember fellas the ladies want kisses….but “Every kiss begins with Kay” No Hershey’s kisses accepted, lol

I’ve come to the conclusion that some people speak just to hear themselves. Rather than speak words that have meaning they just speak random nonsense just be heard by others. When in actuality they aren’t really saying anything. Does this make sense?

Let me explain. Usually when people speak they are trying to get a point across. I mean that is the point of communication right? You have something of worth to say so you say it. There are some who however just go on and on about random nothing-ness (is that even a word? LOL). Also there are those who speak with the purpose of getting attention but all the while what they are saying is pointless and has no meaning. Kind of like an empty promise. The latter of the two is mostly what I’m focusing on in this blog entry.

Now I’m sure all of us, well lets be honest, MOST of us think before we say something. The reason for this is so we don’t get caught out there saying something we regret later on. Also when you run your mouth so much your credibility tends to decrease greatly. I’m sure we all know of a person(s) who talks a good game about that they tend to do or what they are going to do, but they never get around to doing so. Or as I like to say “tomorrow never comes” for them. Sometimes the craziest thing happens. All of a sudden, out of the blue they really have something worth saying. I mean like this is it! The great idea or bit of news that they need to share. Now what do you think happens next? I think we all know the answer to this one. It’s kind of like the story of the boy who cried wolf. After a while no one cares, they’re still “just talking”.

Now no one listens attentively or takes them seriously at least. They get mad, they get upset. Why even bother? Honestly they should’ve seen it coming to begin with. No one will take them seriously for the simple fact that pretty much everything they say is for lack of a better word bulls*t.

So if you are one of these people I’m speaking about maybe you should try speaking less and being more genuine. You know “Mean what you say”. Words are very powerful and valuable, but they lose their worth and meaning when they are not treated as such. If you are going around spewing out nonsense constantly, that says a lot about who you are. If you don’t take yourself seriously, why would someone else? Not unless you’re in a situation where you’re so into the emptiness you speak that you begin to believe it yourself…..but that’s a whole other topic in itself. I’ll touch on that next time.

I’m sure everyone has heard the saying at least once. “If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.” That statement couldn’t be more true. It matters not the situation or the people involved, taking care of everything yourself seems to always be the way to go. Now me personally I can get pretty anal when it comes to the way things are run and/or set up, but that is for a reason. Have you ever been in a situation where a family member, friend or associate decides to set something up and they invite you? And at the exact moment they ask you to join the activities your better judgement tells you otherwise? Well I get that gut feeling all the time.

In my time I have learned that you will always yield better results when you do things yourself. There are many things you dont have to worry about like:

Being kept in the loop as far as the plans/arrangements

Trying to find people when its time to pay up

Horrible planning

last but certainly not least…..cancellations at the last minute

So everyone do yourself a favor and take the time to do things yourself. The outcome is always more rewarding and if anything goes wrong you have no one to blame but yourself. Plus on the flipside you’ll have peace of mind and always be in the know.

As you can tell this more of a PSA/Rant than a regular Blog entry, but seeing as how this is my blog and I pay for it I can write pretty much whatever it is I feel. Sorry people EVERY entry isn’t going to be informative, entertaining or fuunny. lol

I’ll make sure the next one is better

As with everything the world changes and everything either dies out or evolves with time. Sort of like that Darwin theory of evolution. Now take a trip with me back to the mid 80’s to late 90’s. When just like now it was always hip to be “THAT DUDE” fresh everything! Cars, clothes, ladies, crib..you know the works!! Now having all of that was of course great but it meant nothing and the total package was not complete unless you had a what? THAT’S RIIIIIGHT!!! A Hype-Man. Now for those who don’t know what a Hype-Man is just think about the most famous Hype-Man of them all, FLAVA FLAV!

Now that you have a idea about what a Hype-Man is think about what their daily task consisted of. No matter what the hell was going on or when it was going on. That man or womans job is to “Big Up” their counterpart or leader of their group and also whatever moment their counterpart might be involved in. So for Flava Flav he was a Hype-Man to Chuck D. Another example would be Spliff Starr to Busta Rhymes or outside of rap how about Arsenio Hall to Eddie Murphy back in the day, lmfao.

So way back when it seemed like every top player had a Hype-Man of their own and being an actual Hype-Man wasn’t a problem. Now later on down the line somewhere the whole idea of being a HM was twisted and turned into what some may call “D*ck-Riding” lol. Maybe some lesser known HM that we don’t know about was tired of not gettin enough shine and started a revolution for Hype-Men across the world, lol. Well anyways that died down almost completely, or at least that’s what everyone thought!

For the sake of saving time and skipping the rest of the history lesson on the Hype-Man lets fast forward to present day in 2009. There are still major players, ballers, shot callers or whatever you like to call them. So that part of everything has yet to change and that will always be the same. Now as far as the Hype-Man they are no where to be found….or are they. Remember I said everything evolves? Well so did those Hype-Men. Next time you see one of the “Big Names” or “Players” check out his clique of people he or she is running with. I guarantee you there will be one person there that agrees with EVERYTHING they say no matter what. And there you have it….that is your Hype-Man evolved and adapted to the new form called a CO-SIGNER!

This is the person that’s usually right by the “Big-Wigs” side agreeing to and Bigging-up EVERYTHING! Their job is to literally co-sign to everything and keep that person thinking that they are on top of the world and the best thing since sliced bread! lol. Pretty sad if you ask me. These Co-Signers come in all degrees, shapes and sizes also. Not just for rich folks. In the hood you might see one guy with a fly ride……and in the passenger seat of that ride is ALWAYS THE SAME GUY!!! Just riding around the hood with him trying to get at females from the passenger seat while driving down the block. Just trying to reap the benefits of being “down”. Its a damn shame lol.

Me personally I have more respect for the Hype-Man of old than the newly evolved Co-Signers of today. While the Hype-Man was always there and down for the cause they also got some type of respect. Flava flav might not be the best example but he is actually known world wide for being one of the greatest Hype-Men alive and he actually gets respect (as much as you could possibly give Flava Flav ) for what he was a part of which is Public Enemy. Now the Co-Signer in my eyes is just a chump. Always riding the pine and will never elevate above where they currently are. Just trying to get a free ride and will pretty much suck up as much as they need to in order to stay in that comfort zone. A Co-Signer is like one of those parasites…just in it for the ride and the benefits, not realizing that they can be scrapped off at any moment, lol. All those Co-Signers out there listen to me. Think about your role in your clique and if you can remove yourself and nothing be different guess what? You have been wasting you time away, you are expendable. I guess one could say its better to be a Hype-Man than a Co-Signer for the sake of saving face and having some dignity!

And now I leave you with this…check it

You’re minding your own business at work and getting whatever work you need to do done. Its a normal workday in the office and everything is going accordingly. Just as you start to settle in you hear footsteps coming towards your office/cubicle…at this point you’re starting to get nervous. In your mind you hope its not who you think it is and you try to stay calm. The sound of the footsteps get louder and you start to panic so you decide to get up and try to leave before its too late, but as you stand up BAM!! You’re face to face with………your workplace stalker!!!!

Everybody has one or has had one in their time at any given workplace. Not sure if you have one or not? Well let me break it down for you. If there is a person that you really try to avoid speaking to at all cost. That’s probably you’re stalker. If this person you try to avoid is not even really cool with you and they just know you from a workplace event, yup correct again. Does this same person come to visit you at your office/cubicle all the time to talk about irrelevant crap you can care less about all the time? Also does this person just happen to always bump into you around the workplace and say things like “Oh wow, what are you doing over here? We just keep bumping into each other isn’t that funny?” Guess what? All of these things are some of the major signs of a workplace stalker lol.

These offenders are all over the workplace but it seems like the severity to which they harass people at the job vary. Also most of the time your WPS (workplace stalker) may not even think there is a problem. As a matter of fact they probably think everything is cool and you two are good friends. So far from the truth, you’re probably just being cordial and nice to them because you know them from around the workplace. And while they are looking for you to tell you something they think you’d find interesting, you’re telling your friends that if they see this person come near you and start speaking to you to CALL YOU QUICK to get you out lol.

Now how do you get out of this situation? How do you free yourself from your WPS? There is always the best method of telling the person outright that you’d appreciate it if they didnt come around all the time to talk to you while you’re trying to WORK!! It is a workplace after all, you get paid to work not talk all day. If you actually have a heart and care if people get their feelings hurt (unlike myself) then I guess you will never get rid of your WPS. So here are some tips so you can at least make the lovely times spent together as short as possible

Always try to make yourself look busy even if you are not.
This will not always work but it is a deterrent most of the time. When the WPS comes around and they try to sneak you like they usually do but see that you are deep into your work then they might just turn around and leave. Warning this is only a deterrent. They more than likely will try to get you later!!

Don’t make any eye contact.
Yea, yea. I know it sounds real disrespectful and rude, but think about it. If you came to speak to someone and they never even took their eyes off their work nor turned their head to you, more than likely you would think “ok its clear I am wasting this persons time, they don’t even care about what I have to say.” Just remember turning your head and making eye contact is like a invite in!! Once you do that they will think its ok to stay and chit chat.

Try to never get caught alone – Keep yourself around other co-workers
Now this I think is self explanatory. The WPS catches you but this time you’re with other co-workers and now all of a sudden the WPS doesn’t have as much to say because they aren’t as comfortable as when they have you cornered alone. This will keep the encounter very short, hopefully a HI and BYE lol.

Set up what I like to call a RECON buddy system
Simple idea. You give a close friend at the workplace the heads up to either..
A. alert you when they are coming so you can make your move
or
B. Have them call your cell/extension or even just come over to your desk to pull you out of the situation with a very convenient excuse!

Ok those are just some tips I’m sure there are plenty more but you get the point. Having a WPS can be very stressful for some and even start to affect your workplace performance, which can lead to a whole downward spiral of bad things. Hope this helps all of those people out there that are dealing with the WPS and think they are stuck and doomed to suffer for the rest of their days employed at their current job lol. Don’t give up hope. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way!” lol

Anybody have any other tips please feel free to share! And if you are one of these WPS then please explain to me why do you put people through this torment!
